Lehigh Valley Roller Derby (LVRD) has been around for nearly 20 years. After joining the team, my friend and I realized our skills off the track could be of use. The best way for us to contribute was to revamp their branding and marketing strategy as Creative and Marketing Directors, respectively.

Not only am I super proud to be a part of the Board of Directors, but I’m insanely proud of everyone involved with LVRD. Donating my time and skills to showing off what great humans they are just makes me happy.

Website Revamp

I previously held the position of Web Manager for the team before being elected Marketing Director. As such I revamped the website to reflect our current colors, added new team members, and put upcoming games front and center.

Headshots

Our team is full of characters – our headshots should reflect that. New team headshots were taken that not only coordinate with our updated branding, but also celebrate everyone’s personality with the fun, yet competitive nature of the sport.

Community Events and Merchandise

Getting the word out about a niche sport is difficult. We’ve found setting up informational tables at targeted events (local coffee shops, punk DIY flea markets, skate rinks) helps us directly reach more people in our demographic. By sourcing a table cover from a local printer that fits within our branding and has vital information (social handles, url, QR codes), we are able to raise our visibility while also supporting local businesses.

This year, we were able to partner with our afterparty host Weyerbacher Brewing to release Bruiseberry Lager – a beer created for the team using local hops, malts, and black and blueberries. Next year, we plan to place custom coasters in other local breweries and restaurants.

Social Media

Initial art and concepts are handled by our Creative Director. As the Marketing Director, I oversee copywriting as well as our social media calendar and event posts. As a graphic designer by trade, I also help with resizing and concept development to ensure our art works across multiple channels while still remaining firmly within our branding.
